Wearable technology has been one of the hottest “what if” scenarios of the technology sector. Members of the IT channel have had to deal with the rumors and speculation for years of devices that have no confirmation like Apple’s secret “iWatch” or the very slow adoption of Google Glass.

It seems like this is a market that is ready to boom. The idea of talking into your watch is something we have been seeing in fiction for nearly a century. It seems like every technology provider is trying to get in on the action.

Earlier this week, Google released a video on its blog announcing Android Wear. In it people are seen sending texts, looking up sports scores, listening to music, scanning a digital plane ticket, tracking a workout and even opening their garage doors all through the new watch with voice commands.

“Most of us are rarely without our smartphones in hand. These powerful supercomputers keep us connected to the world and the people we love. But we’re only at the beginning; we’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s possible with mobile technology,” the release reads. “That’s why we’re so excited about wearables—they understand the context of the world around you, and you can interact with them simply and efficiently, with just a glance or a spoken word.”

The new platform is available for developers now, so there is no telling what kind of applications could be added to the system and what the business implications could be. The right VAR or MSP can help businesses incorporate this technology into the corporate landscape and VAR Staffing helps these solution providers have the impact needed to make this possible.
