In the technology business landscape, the battle over impactful talent is heating up like never before. As more businesses realize the importance of IT systems and jump on the bandwagon, the need for quality individuals to manage all of these systems becomes more important. While identifying and recruiting these professionals is difficult enough, retaining talent you already have is also a growing challenge.
According to a recent survey from Dice, the compensation levels for tech workers is a major factor. Over 17,000 tech professionals were surveyed between October 14 and November 29 of last year and 68 percent of them cited compensation as the main reason for seeking a new job. Other reasons include working conditions (48 percent), greater challenge (35 percent) and the fear of losing their job (20 percent).
The numbers also show that 54 percent of the workers polled were not satisfied with their current salary. However, that number is down from 2012 where 57 percent had the same feeling.
Because of this, retention is going to be a challenge going forward. Sixty-five percent of tech employees believe they can find a better opportunity in 2014. This is despite the fact that the average salary is up 2.6 percent to just under $88,000.
The competition for quality professionals is growing and organizations need to be aware of it. VARs and MSPs have become major players in the business landscape by helping companies deploy and manage the latest solutions. However, these businesses are not immune to staffing challenges. VAR Staffing helps solution providers find and recruit the needed impactful talent.
