Cloud computing has moved far beyond being just a buzzword in the IT channel and is now on the cusp of pushing widespread industry change. That is the feeling expressed in a recent article from Search CIO-Midmarket that gives the preliminary findings of a survey of IT professionals in North America.

The article spoke with David Girard, one of the 277 IT managers who were part of the survey. He said that the cloud is going to play a major role when it comes to the career paths of IT professionals.

“To a certain extent, senior executives devalue us now and view our services as a commodity — that we are button-pushers,” said Girard. “On the flip side, many see the real value in governance and controls around those easy-to-push buttons. They are aware of the mess we could be in and how fast we can get there with unchecked cloud services.”

He added that unlike past technological advances, decision-makers outside of IT do have an understanding of the cloud and what it can bring to a business. Ken Yawfimetz, another respondent interviewed in the article, mentioned that many executives see the “ability to add value” when it comes to data needs and analytics that the cloud can provide.

Cloud positions across the board are becoming more important and organizations need to ensure they have the impactful talent in place to manage these solutions. VARs and MSPs have become a valuable resource and those solution providers that are partnered with VAR Staffing can identify and recruit the quality professionals that are needed to manage these strategies.
