IT departments see growing talent diversity

In many businesses, diversity is something that is strived for. This can mean a number of different things. From a staffing standpoint, it typically means having a wide array of different individuals with unique backgrounds forming a well-rounded team. When it comes to the IT channel, gender diversity has never been a strong suit. But that could be changing.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women filled over 60 percent of new technology jobs in 2013. That number is up from 35 percent in 2012. Most of this has to do with the growing demand for quality professionals in the marketplace as multiple organizations are searching for impactful talent.
A recent article from Search Data Center examined this trend and spoke with several industry executives about what it means for the future of IT departments. A common thread is that it is too early to jump to conclusions.
“While I’m cautiously pleased at the uptick in tech hires this year…one year’s anomalous result doesn’t necessarily reverse the trend demonstrated by the other nine years of data,” Rachel Chalmers, who has spent her career in the IT industry. “Give me 10 years of something closer to equity and [I] might [not] be so cautious.”
The IT hiring landscape appears to be changing dramatically as the need for impactful talent continues to grow. More businesses are turning toward VARs and MSPs as a way to answer growing needs. Solution providers that are partnered with VAR Staffing are able to identify and recruit the qualified individuals that are in high demand.
