For any IT Principal, it is important to keep an eye on the latest trends. No one wants to find themselves behind the competition. After all, the next big thing doesn't just come out of left field and revolutionize the industry. The IT channel is constantly evolving, and being caught off guard by a trend can cause companies to lose out on business.

Recently, Yahoo released a list of 10 tech terms that will be at the front of the pack in 2014. Some of these are hitting the IT lexicon for the first time, like "cyber-physical systems," "industrial internet" and "advanced manufacturing."

Others, however, are holdovers from this year. Those include cloud storage, big data, agile development, augmented reality, 3G/4G/5G and massive open online courses (MOOC). Cyber security, another popular trend right now, will continue to grow in importance as it affects all of the previous areas.

"As we migrate more of our personal and business data to cloud storage—and as cyber-physical systems connected via the Industrial Internet and next-generation wireless networks become more integrated and essential to our health, economy, society, and homeland defense—we need better methods and tools for identifying and neutralizing potential cyber threats, such as viruses and other malicious code, as well as human vulnerabilities, such as insider threats," the article reads.

Keeping up with these trends can be a complicated task, especially with everything else that IT professionals need to deal with. A VAR or MSP can help keep IT departments informed. VAR Staffing helps any solution provider find the impactful talent that understands all of the latest trends.
