Overcoming the ‘outsourcing stigma’ on the road to business success

Growing technological advances means new ways of doing nearly every business function. As such, IT Principals find themselves dealing with new challenges, some of which they have never seen before. Having reliable resources is important, but sometimes outsourcing or project-based hiring options can be the best way to clear some of the hurdles.

There is a stigma that outsourcing is unnecessary or a sign of weakness – if businesses can't do it themselves there is something wrong. But with IT challenges, attempting to handle complex innovations like cloud computing and bring your own device (BYOD) policies can end disastrously if entered with little knowledge.

In a new column for Dynamic Business, Jessica Reid examines her theory of companies being "time poor" and the value of outsourcing to answer these challenges.

"In fact, the only way to succeed in your business is to start outsourcing or delegating the stuff that you are no good at, so you can concentrate on doing what you do best," wrote Reid. "Generally, that's selling yourself and doing the actual work. The more time you have available to sell and do the work, the quicker you are going to grow your business."

Outsourcing also allows enterprises to quickly close the skills gap that technology is creating. It can be difficult for IT Principals to increase knowledge of in-house options, especially as never-before-seen innovations become businesses next game-changer.
