Thoughts from MSPU Boot Camp in Wales
As I write this blog post, I am travelling on Britain’s rail system from Newport to Paddington station to meet David, my chief Web programmer at Ulistic. David and I have deployed over 120 MSP websites over the past year. Boy, that is sure alot of MSPs we have supported and helped.
I have only been in the UK for about 48 hours, and I am already starting my 24-hour journey back to St, Catharines. I have had a great visit here with the folks from MSPU – now SPC International. I am honoured to be part of their team and have an opportunity to work with the EMEA team from Ingram Micro.
I have learned plenty during my short visit to the United Kingdom. The biggest lesson I learned is that there is a big wide world outside of our comfort zone in North America.
The other important lesson I have learned is that IT services providers in the UK experience many of the same challenges we face in North America. CEOs struggle with talent management and acquisition. Keeping a sales funnel healthy is another mutual challenge. MSPs in the UK face many unique challenges as well.
Teaching the CEO track is one part of my involvement with SPC International. I get to discuss leadership, sales, marketing and many other issues with 25 to 40 leaders each month. As an MSP Business Development Consultant or MSP Coach, SPC International provides the perfect stage from which I can share my life lessons with those in attendance.
I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to coach thousands of MSPs every year on the things that matter: sales, marketing, leadership, execution, and even the finer moments outside of the office. Nothing beats having a couple of pints after a hard day of work.
For my colleagues at MSPU/SPC International, thank you for the opportunity to work with you. Not a day goes by without my feeling grateful for the opportunity Erick Simpson and Gary Beechum have afforded me.
Now, if I can only sort out this jet lag issue … I will be fine.
