In the technology world, there seems to always be a new announcement or deadline that changes the face of the landscape. Earlier this week, we covered the fact that the ATM marketplace will be dramatically affected when Microsoft stops supporting Windows XP – something 95 percent of the 2.2 million cash machines run. This will open up these machines to new cyber attacks that they are no longer capable of repelling.

Not all of these incidents in the IT channel are negative. According to a report from ZDNet, there are rumblings that March 27 will also have a significant impact on the business world, because that it the date that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will introduce Office for the iPad.

The creation of the business suite for the Apple mobile platform has been rumored for some time and there was speculation over the years of “confirmed” released dates that caused business partners to get excited. Alas, most of this talk was just that.

The article states that the company will be holding a press conference next week that will focus on the cloud and mobility. One of the tentpoles of this event will be Office for iPad. The suite will feature versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote and require a Microsoft Office 365 subscription.

If this turns out to be true, many business IT departments could suddenly find themselves looking at an influx of iPads.
