With IT staffing numbers down, VAR community looked to for support

The IT jobs market has been a volatile arena over the last few years. As the latest technology systems hit the market and become increasingly important for daily tasks, having the impactful talent in place to manage these solutions becomes a larger challenge. Businesses are no longer looking to hire just anyone who understands how to use a computer, but they’re instead digging through the IT channel to find the right professionals.
According to a recent IT Jungle article, since topping out at 11,200 IT jobs added in June, there has been a steady decline and September saw only 2,500 tech jobs created, which is a drop of 4,500 from the month before. These numbers do not necessarily speak to a lack in quality talent, but rather the ability of decision-makers to bring them onboard. This has led to an increased reliance on IT solution providers, who are more than equipped to respond to these challenges, during lean times.
The piece features an interview with Victor Janulaitis, the CEO of Janco Associates. The company follows the hiring numbers closely and recently interviewed nearly 100 CIOs, finding that spending is being slowed because of the state of the economy.
“As part of the 2014 budgeting process, [CIOs] are constrained in the number of initiatives that they can plan for in the coming year,” Janulaitis said. “Over two-thirds of the CIOs interviewed say that the network infrastructure, which many have not been able to update because of budget limitations they have in place, is making it more difficult to implement new technologies without significantly increase costs.”
This doesn’t diminish the fact that organizations still need to find impactful talent to deliver cutting edge solutions. Instead of hiring, many are turning to the solution provider community to deliver the missing skills sets. VAR Staffing helps VARs and MSPs identify and recruit the impactful talent to answer the technology challenges of their clients.
