As we enter October, it is the prefect time for every company to examine its cyber security protocols and make sure it is protected. Why? It is National Cyber Security Awareness month.
This initiative was launched 10 years ago by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the National Cyber Security Alliance—an organization of private companies. The group has created a survey so companies can see how their processes rank and as well as broken down the month into different silos to help educate business owners. These include:
- Oct. 1-6, General online safety
- Oct. 7-13, Mobile online safety & security
- Oct. 14-20, Cyber education
- Oct. 21-27, Cyber crime
- Oct. 28-31, Cyber security and critical infrastructure
This is important to know because online security is becoming a bigger challenge. According to a report from security firm Norton, 63 percent of Americans have fallen victim to cyber crime in their lifetime. The problem is worse for younger consumers, as 70 percent of Millennials have become a victim. In the study, cyber crime is dictated as everything from virus-infected computers to credit card fraud to credit card hacking as well as standard phishing attacks and online scams.
The need for proper IT security is skyrocketing up the priority lists for many organizations. It can be hard for companies to find the impactful talent needed to combat any risk. VAR Staffing offers solution providers that quality professionals require to remain safe from any potential attack.
