The instance of information theft is on the rise, with more entities than ever being targeted for the value of the data they hold in their digital servers. Cloud storage is among the resources that hackers frequently target, making security and management critical. The presence of online information is too tempting for hackers to pass up, so owning organizations need to bolster their safety measures to combat these threats.
According to TechRepublic, a recent infographic showed that there are more than 100,000 new security issues appearing every day. At the same time, almost half of all corporate applications now reside in cloud storage and similar constructs, but less than one-fifth of organizations are working on improving protection for these deployments.
This could explain why an interactive data breach chart from Information is Beautiful shows that leaks and theft instances among major corporations is picking up speed. Venture Beat reported that the chart shows millions of people continue to have their data put in danger due to retailers, medical providers and even government agencies failing to properly manage their cloud storage assets. Businesses of all kinds need to do more to ensure that their clients’ sensitive information is being kept out of harm’s reach.
