Future opportunities at risk if IT solution provider focus doesn’t evolve

We all know that the IT world has evolved and it can be difficult for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to keep pace. Because of this, many SMBs are relying on VARs and MSPs to answer the growing challenges in the IT channel in a timely manner.
In a recent article from CompTIA, Brian Sherman argued that this approach is also changing, as the focus of solution providers needs to be updated. Traditionally, VARs needed solid skills, a strong work ethic, the ability to self-market and be able to help keep track of money. Now, Sherman said these businesses need to have a fundamental understanding of the effects of the latest technology innovations on their company as well as their clients' operations.
"Successful IT solution providers have to work effectively on both sides of the house today, with a firm grasp on the technologies and support aspect of their business, as well as a strong handle on their back office operations," Sherman wrote. "If either part of the organization fails to fulfill its responsibilities or falls below industry standards, the risks to profitability and future business opportunities are sure to rise."
Having that understanding of the IT channel can be difficult to fully grasp, especially with the rate of technology evolution and the other tasks that VARs and MSPs need to complete.
