The harsh reality that today’s IT departments must accept

For many people, when they are handed a task to accomplish they want to be able to complete it perfectly. Why leave loose ends? Unfortunately, in today's IT world, IT Principals are finding that not only are certain projects never going to be completely finished, but the team will have to accept that there is nothing they can do about it.
A recent piece from NetworkWorld contributor Dan Tynan tackles this issue and declares that today's IT is all about embracing imperfections.
"In a perfect world, your network would suffer no downtime and be locked down tight. You'd be in perfect compliance with all government regulations, and your users would all be self-supporting. The cloud would take care of nearly all your infrastructure needs, and there wouldn't be a single device accessing the network you didn't first approve of and control," writes Tynan. "Good luck with all that. The gap between your dreams and cold hard reality just gets wider every day."
He goes on to say that just because things look bleak, it doesn't mean IT departments should give up. Instead, they just need to change focus and learn what they can alter and what they can't.
The BYOD trend is not going away. No system is ever fully compliant. Cloud technology will not fix everything. There will always be a need for more IT talent.
While this seems like a bleak outlook, it doesn't have to be. Every IT Principal can lose sleep over these unchangeable obstacles, it would be far more beneficial to embrace what you have no control over and work on what you can fix. Partnering with a reliable VAR or MSP can open up a new world of resources and help IT departments get a handle on what they can truly influence.
