Writing solid blog posts that people like to read can be tricky. Creating content that matters to your audience is at the core of blogging, and it should come before all other activities on your blog, such as promotions and monetization. For most blogs, those are just distractions that take away from your main point: engaging your audience and teaching them something useful. Think about the following three tips and see if you can use them to improve your blog.

Patience is a Virtue

Though posting good content is the first step in bringing an audience into your fold, don’t expect them to come flocking the moment you post anything interesting. Buying a domain and posting is not all there is to blogging. Most of the time, doing these things only brings spammy comments and no actual readers for months at a time.

Don’t expect overnight success. Many bloggers spend years writing because they like to write. Write about what you enjoy and build up your blog with good, quality advice and interesting thoughts. Consistency, promotion, and spell check will bring you an audience that you can be proud of.

You’re Not “Too Busy”

If you think you’re too busy to write more than a post a week, you should take a good, hard look at your life. Can you wake up half an hour earlier? Can you cut your TV time short? Can you hire someone else to write content? Consistently posting is one of the most important things you can do. Google loves people who update at least three times a week, and it’s more likely you’ll have a larger audience when you frequently update. No one likes to wait for updates. Find the time and space in your life to update three to five times a week and you will see a difference in your traffic.

Support Your Blog with Social Media

Yes, social media comes up a lot in the marketing world, and its application in the blogging world is no different. Part of what makes a blog amazing is an audience that appreciates your advice. Harnessing the power of social media means reaching a potential audience of millions, some of which would probably love to hear what you have to say. When you update your blog, post it to your Facebook and other social media websites. Anyone who shares your content is building your reputation for you. Using multiple platforms can also help bring in the business; the more places you are on the web, the more likely someone will find themselves on your blog’s website.
